Lightning Minerals (ASX:L1M) is planning the next stage of exploration at its Dalmas and Hiver Lithium projects in Quebec, Canada, upon completing a field reconnaissance program.
The company is currently assessing the next steps, including potentially collecting high-resolution light detection and ranging (LiDAR) topographic data to support identifying further outcropping pegmatites.
Various tillite sampling programs across both projects are also being considered to investigate dispersion of tantalum as an exploration tool, as well as collecting high-resolution aeromagnetic geophysical data to identify geological structures for the resumption of field work during the Canadian summer.
Lightning Minerals recently completed field reconnaissance programs prior to the Canadian winter, with all of the analytical work being returned for 32 samples. This work will be used to guide future exploration.
Geological service provider IOS Services Geoscientifiques of Quebec, Canada were commissioned to conduct the reconnaissance fieldwork program during October 2023.
Managing Director Alex Biggs says the results demonstrate the potential for lithium mineralisation and provide further opportunities and ideas for ongoing exploration.
“Current results will give us a greater understanding of how we can unlock the potential of Dalmas and Hiver which are located in one of the world’s premier lithium provinces.
This program was designed to be a quick first pass reconnaissance of Dalmas and Hiver to identify the extent of surface mineralisation and allow us to develop strategies for sub-cropping structures should they exist.
Consider this work as an incremental step in gaining an understanding of what will be the most appropriate path forwards to identifying the potential at Dalmas and Hiver and we believe that the underlying geology represents significant opportunity.”
The company reports peak results from the Actlabs whole rock laboratory analysis include 33 parts per million (ppm) lithium, 7.73ppm caesium, and 3.6ppm tantalum.
While the reconnaissance work has not uncovered mineralised pegmatites in the first pass of field visitation, the geology within both project’s remains prospective.

As of 31 December 2023, the company had $2.565 million cash and cash equivalents at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
