Metallurgical coal producer Coronado Global Resources (ASX:CRN) has reported a fatal incident involving one employee at its Buchanan underground mining complex in Virginia, US.
The incident occurred at the beginning of an evening shift on 31 May 2024, and Coronado is now assisting investigations by US federal and state agencies.
Coronado has temporarily ceased operations at the underground mining complex, but is expected to re-open on 3 June 2024.
The company says it is focused on supporting the family of the employee, while also offering counselling services to all Coronado employees.
Coronado notes it does not expect the cessation of mining activities to materially impact its operations.
The Buchanan complex has been operating since 1983 and covers 357km2 near Oakwood in Buchanan County, Virginia.
Coronado also has operations in Queensland, Australia, and in Pennsylvania and West Virginia in the US.
