Altona Rare Earths (LSE:REE) has published a request for proposals (RFP) for the implementation of the Monte Muambe Project’s rare earths work program in Mozambique.
Qualified US firms are now invited to submit proposals to conduct the metallurgy and process engineering components of a Prefeasibility Study for the development of Altona’s rare earths mining and processing facility in the Moatiza District of the Tete Province in northwest Mozambique.
The deadline for proposal submission is 4pm Central African time (12am AEST) on 4 May 2026.
The scope of work, funded by a grant from the US Trade and Development Agency, encompasses a comprehensive workstream designed to further de-risk key technical and commercial aspects of the project.
Altona says the funded work includes a targeted drilling campaign, comprehensive metallurgical testing and engineering studies, associated environmental and commercial studies, as well as the engagement with potential offtake partners and the development of an updated financial model and project valuation.
CEO Cedric Simonet says the launch of the RFP marks a step in advancing the Monte Muambe Project.
“Backed by the US Government, this work will support the continued technical and commercial development of the project, and also deepen engagement with potential strategic and commercial US partners,” Simonet says.
In February 2026, the US Trade and Development Agency signed the grant agreement of up to US$1.875 million ($2.74 million) with Altona, which represents an ‘important’ endorsement of Monte Muambe.
The company says the publication of the RFP now triggers the execution of the planned work, delivering multiple tangible outcomes, while also refining the project’s technical and economic parameters and supporting a potential increase in project value through updated financial modelling.
Altona Rare Earths is a mineral explorer and developer focused on unlocking the value of critical raw materials across Africa.
The Monte Muambe Project is a highly prospective tenement hosting rare earths, fluorspar and gallium mineralisation. The project has mineral resource of 13.6 million tonnes @ 2.42% total rare earth oxide and a 25-year mining licence.
