New South Wales has orchestrated over $330 million in commercial agreements with local businesses, as well as businesses in the Guangdong Province in China to strengthen ties at the start of December 2025.
One of the state’s key outcomes includes Highstar Sodium Battery securing a $130 million supply contract with Highflow Energy in order to deliver 1 gigawatt per hour of sodium-ion products into the Australian market over a three-year period.
The trade mission was led by New South Wales Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong, targeting global net zero initiatives and the energy transition.
Chanthivong says the mission was focused on creating jobs, attracting investment, and diversifying the trade base under the objectives of the New South Wales Trade and Investment Strategy 2035.
”New South Wales is a trading state and China is a major trading partner,” Chanthivong says.
“The outcomes achieved in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong demonstrate the strength of our long-standing sister-state relationship with Guangdong and the opportunities that flow from collaboration in net zero, health, technology and agriculture.
“From clean energy innovation, to clinical trials and sustainable farming, these partnerships will deliver tangible benefits for New South Wales businesses and communities.”
Other outcomes include a memorandum of understanding between Guangdong’s National New Energy Storage Innovation Center and Australia’s Smart Energy Council. This agreement intends to further collaboration on battery technology research and development, integrate industrial supply chains, and strengthen market opportunity for exploration.
