Nevgold (TSX-V:NAU) has mobilised a drill rig to test historical gold heap leach pads for antimony at its Limousine Butte Project in Nevada, targeting potential production by 2027.
The company aims to complete a mineral resource estimate (MRE) by early Q2 2026 to evaluate development scenarios for antimony extraction from the leach pads.
CEO Brandon Bonifacio says the project represents a rare opportunity for near-term antimony production in the United States.
“We are in an advantageous position as we have oxide antimony at surface amenable to leaching at a brownfield mine site in the State of Nevada, which is one of the top mining jurisdictions globally with a systematic permitting regime and strong community support,” Bonifacio says.
The strategic importance of domestic antimony production has increased following China’s restrictions on exports to the US in December 2024. China currently produces approximately 90% of global antimony supply alongside Russia and Tajikistan.
Antimony is classified as a critical mineral by the US Geological Survey, with applications in military equipment, semiconductors, and clean energy storage technologies.
The US Government issued an Executive Order in March 2025 to strengthen domestic mineral production, invoking the Defense Production Act to expedite permits and improve access to capital for critical mineral projects.
