Impact Minerals puts Lake Hope at centre of new strategy

Impact Minerals (ASX:IPT) has concluded a strategic review launched under its 100-day plan in August 2026, prioritising the development of its Lake Hope Project in Western Australia to produce high-purity alumina (HPA).

The review identified a need to separate the company’s HPA business, comprising Lake Hope and Alluminous, from its precious and base metals portfolio, which includes Broken Hill and Commonwealth.

The renewed focus on HPA and critical minerals places Lake Hope at the centre of the company’s strategy. A June 2025 Prefeasibility Study (PFS) estimates the project has a net present value of $1.165 billion at a 10% discount rate and a post-tax internal rate of return of 47%, based on 33 years of feedstock supply.

A pilot plant for Lake Hope is underway, with design work complete, equipment purchased, and deliveries to site ongoing.

Impact will retain its 50% stake in Alluminous as an investment while seeking to monetise Broken Hill, noting that further exploration will require significant funding.

At the Commonwealth Project, Kuniko (ASX:KNI) has earned a 51% interest by funding all exploration and expects to deliver an updated mineral resource estimate (MRE) before the end of 2026. Impact intends to retain a portion of the project, free carried through to a decision to mine.

The company is shifting its focus towards critical minerals exploration, with key targets including manganese, tungsten, and bismuth.

Name change under consideration

Impact Minerals is considering a name change, subject to shareholder approval at its next annual general meeting on 30 November. Further details will be provided in the Notice of Meeting.

Commenting on the updates, Executive Chair Jim McKerlie said the previous business model required investors to value two distinct businesses as one.

“That ends today. Lake Hope is now the priority for management time and development capital, with existing precious and base metals exploration assets under review and a refocus on critical minerals exploration,” McKerlie says.

“We will report against clear milestones, starting with commissioning the Lake Hope pilot plant by 30 November.”

Impact Minerals is an exploration company focused on high-purity alumina, gold, and silver, with assets in New South Wales and Western Australia.
