IN LONDON: H-Power (AIM:HPOW) has entered into a supply agreement to sell 5,000kg of fuel cell-grade green hydrogen, produced by its pilot ammonia cracker plant, to Protium.
This represents the first commercial sale of bulk hydrogen from cracked ammonia to a third-party customer in the UK. H-Power says the deal demonstrates its ability to produce scaled volumes of low-carbon hydrogen at a commercially viable price without reliance on government subsidies or incentives.
CEO John Wilson says by partnering with Protium, the company is addressing the challenges of hydrogen logistics and pricing.
“We are enabling customers and industries to decarbonise today,” Wilson says.
Protium CEO Christopher Jackson adds that the collaboration shows how technology and strategic distribution can overcome traditional pricing and logistics barriers.
“By integrating this supply into our logistics network and establishing a ‘virtual depot’ at Dunsfold, we are expanding our end-to-end capability to deliver practical, zero-emission solutions to the industrial and transport sectors today,” Jackson says.
Both companies have also entered into a 12-month agreement to create a virtual depot for Protium at H-Power’s Dunsfold facility. Several of Protium’s hydrogen storage and logistics assets will be stored at the facility and filled with hydrogen produced from ammonia via H-Power’s plant.
The development and launch of H-Power’s HY5 decentralised portable cracker unit remains on track. H-Power says HY5 will provide the lowest-cost bulk fuel cell-grade hydrogen available to industrial customers in the UK by the end of 2026.
H-Power is a provider of ammonia-based low-carbon hydrogen production and hydrogen-to-power solutions.
