Greenland Resources (TSX:MOLY) has shipped more than 8 tonnes of drill core and 14 tonnes of water samples from its Malmbjerg Molybdenum Project in Greenland to SGS Lakefield Ontario for metallurgical testing.
The materials were collected during the company’s recent summer field program and are expected to arrive at the testing facility around 12 October.
The test program aims to verify key performance indicators, including metallurgical recoveries and concentration grades for rare earth elements (REE) and magnesium as potential byproducts.
Drill core samples were collected above the 0.06% molybdenum disulphide cut-off grade under the supervision of a qualified geologist.
The company took precautions throughout handling and transport to prevent contamination by saline water, with core intervals wrapped in plastic and stored in secure vessel holds during transport from Greenland to Iceland.
According to Greenland Resources, a total of 12 tonnes of saline water was collected at approximately 8m below sea level within 30m of the modelled saline water intake location at Noret Inlet. An additional 2 tonnes of fresh water was collected from the Mellem River using a similar methodology.
The testing forms part of a C$7 million ($7.05 million) program funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Critical Minerals Research, Development, and Demonstration Program. The work evaluates molybdenum and magnesium flotation using fresh and saline water, while assessing the potential recovery of magnesium and REE byproducts.
China accounts for approximately 69% of global REE production and 89% of global magnesium production. The European Union sources 97% of its magnesium from China, while US net import reliance on magnesium exceeded 75% of consumption in 2025.
The test program will run until March 2028, with the company providing updates as results become available.
Greenland Resources is a Canadian and Greenlandic company developing Malmbjerg, a Climax-type primary molybdenum deposit in east-central Greenland.
