Golden Rim Resources Ltd (ASX: GMR) has announced a highly encouraging update regarding its exploration campaign at the Kouri Gold Project in Burkina Faso.
The company said that the exploration campaign is progressing well at Kouri and reported updates about diamond drilling, auger drilling, and geophysical survey.
GMR reported that the first diamond drill hole (MDH001) at the Diabatou prospect has been completed and has intersected several zones of granite-hosted quartz-sulphide mineralisation with visible gold.
The company said that a second diamond drill hole (MDH002) is currently being drilled 75m beneath MDH001. The first assays from the diamond drilling are expected in approximately 3 weeks.
The company reported that a major 15,000m (3,750 holes) auger drilling program has commenced at the Diabatou prospect and will systematically cover various target areas in the Margou Permit.
The company also announced the commencement of ground magnetic and gradient-array IP geophysical survey (~500 line km) at the Diabatou prospect. The survey will extend through the central portion of the Margou and Goueli permit areas.
Kouri project
The Kouri Project is located 230km NE of Ouagadougou, on the Samira Greenstone Belt in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The project covers an area of 325km2.
Golden Rim had recently inked an agreement with Lafi Gold to acquire two exploration permits, Goueli permit and Margou permit, which lie directly adjacent to the eastern boundary of the Kouri permit.
Diamond drilling at Kouri
The company reported that it had recommenced its 21,000m reverse circulation (RC) and diamond drilling program last week. Approximately 9,200m of RC drilling and 4,000m of diamond drilling for ~100 holes remains to be drilled under the program.
The company said that the first assays from the re-commenced program are expected in approximately 3 weeks.
Drill hole MDH001
The company announced that the first diamond drill hole MDH001 has been completed to a depth of 80m at the Diabatou prospect (Margou Permit).
MDH001 is a twin hole to previous RC drill hole MRC008 that had returned 7m at 121.2g/t gold from 41m, including 1m at 783.8g/t gold from 44m, and 3m at 7.2g/t gold from 56m.
MDH001 was planned to confirm the orientation of this bonanza grade gold mineralisation prior to step-out drilling.
Golden Rim reported that the orientation readings on the mineralisation in the drill core have confirmed its interpretation that the mineralisation is striking 060 – 070 degree and dipping 80 – 85 degree northwest.
Visible gold at MDH001
GMR reported that MDH001 intersected several zones of granite-hosted quartz-sulphide mineralisation with visible gold.
Drill hole MDH002 underway
The company announced that the second diamond drill hole MDH002 is underway and has a planned depth of 160m at the Diabatou prospect.
GMR said that MDH002 is designed to test the depth extent of the high grade mineralisation intersected in MRC008 along with the up-dip extent of a second zone of high grade mineralisation intersected in previous RC hole MRC014.
Further holes planned
The company said that upon the completion of MDH002, further diamond drill holes are planned to the northeast and to the southwest to determine the strike extent of the high grade gold mineralisation.
Auger drilling commenced
GMR reported that an auger drilling program has commenced at Kouri. The program is expected to comprise 3,750 holes for a total of ~15,000m.
The company said that the auger drilling is initially being conducted at the Diabatou prospect and will then extend to systematically cover various target areas in the Margou Permit.
An average auger hole depth of 4m is expected with drilling being conducted on lines orientated at 150 degrees. The line spacing for the auger drilling at the Diabatou prospect is 200m, with holes being drilled every 50m along the lines.
The company said that over other areas within the Margou Permit, an initial 400m line spacing, with holes every 50m along the lines is planned.
Geophysical survey started
The company reported that a considerable ground magnetic and gradient-array Induced Polarisation (IP) geophysical survey has commenced at the Diabatou prospect.
The company reported that the survey will be conducted over a 3 – 4 month period and comprises ~500 line km. It is being conducted on 100m spaced lines.
GMR said that this will be extended through the Margou and Goueli permits.
Next steps
The company said that promising results will be followed up (where practicable) with trenching and further RC or DD drilling.
GMR said that exploration and infill drilling will continue to target projected lateral and depth extensions of the mineralisation and to increase the confidence in the Mineral Resource.
