Western Mines makes way for new Western Australian tenements

Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has elected to sell the Melita tenement and surrender Pinyalling during a strategic review of the company’s project portfolio that saw it applying for two new tenements.

The company has applied for new tenements in Fraser Range and Mt Narryer to increase its nickel and copper focus in the margins of the Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia.

The tenement Western Mines has applied for in the Fraser Range was previously held by Legend Mining (ASX:LEG), which is known to host the mineralised Octagonal intrusion.

Western Mines describes the Mt Narryer application to be an “earlier-stage greenfield copper-nickel exploration opportunity”.

Managing Director Caedmon Marriott says the team is excited to pick up new areas for exploration in these regions.

“Combined they cover some 400km2 and are large greenfield opportunities along the edge of the Yilgarn Craton prospective cratonic margin settings for magmatic nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation,” Marriott says.

“Both projects were pegged as new tenement applications over vacant ground and are therefore a cheap entry that upgrades our project portfolio and leverages the company’s magmatic nickel sulphide focus and expertise.

“These disposals free up company time and resources in the near term whilst the new projects go through the application process.”

Western Mines Group is a mineral explorer with assets mostly in Western Australia’s Murchison region.
