Jindalee Lithium (ASX:JLL) has signed a letter of understanding (LOU) covering the McDermitt Lithium Project with the Oregon Building Trades Unions (OBTU) through the company’s wholly owned US subsidiary, HiTech Minerals.
Hi-Tech Minerals completed a Prefeasibility Study (PFS) at McDermitt in November 2024, estimating that the project could generate approximately 1,000 direct construction jobs during the build phase, with approximately 600 direct permanent operational jobs across the operational life of the mine which exceeds 60 years.
The OBTU is a statewide organisation comprised of 31 affiliate member trade unions representing tens of thousands of skilled workers in the state. The OBTU supports the project and is working in good faith with HiTech towards a mutually acceptable binding project labour agreement (PLA) that requires all project construction work to be performed by union labour.
Jindalee Managing Director Ian Rodger says that the company is very pleased about the signing of the LOU with the OBTU.
“McDermitt has the potential to be one of the largest projects developed in rural Oregon and we are delighted to be partnering with the OBTU to help develop the skilled workforce required to responsibly advance the project for the benefit of all stakeholders.”
