The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €99.1 million ($159 million) loan to Mota-Engil Africa, a subsidiary of Mota-Engil Group, to modernise mining services operations in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
The financing will support equipment purchases, working capital, and refinance recent investments across three mine sites to improve productivity and operational capacity.
EBRD notes that replacing older machinery with modern equipment will lower fuel consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of the agreement, Mota-Engil Africa is implementing strategic human capital initiatives, including workforce skill enhancement and nationally accredited technical training programs with educational institutions in both countries.
The company is also executing measures to increase female recruitment, retention, and advancement across technical, operational, and leadership roles.
These social workstreams are backed by an additional €200,000 technical cooperation program under the EBRD’s Gender and Economic Inclusion Framework.
Since expanding into Sub-Saharan Africa in 2025, the EBRD has invested over €620 million across Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal.
Mota-Engil Africa is an engineering, construction, and mining services company operating major infrastructure and mining projects across the African continent.
