Core Energy Minerals (ASX:CR3) has identified a peak of 2,921 parts per million of total rare earth oxide (TREO) in residual soils from a recent reconnaissance sampling program at the Tunas Project located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The company is streamlining a systematic auger soil sampling program immediately, to identify targets ahead of a drilling campaign.
Executive Director Tony Greenaway says the initial results are encouraging for the greater Tunas Project.
“We are seeing significant TREO results from our first pass reconnaissance sampling campaign,” Greenaway says.
“TREO results over 2,000ppm and a peak of 2,915ppm at surface in a deeply weathered soil profile, as we are seeing at Tunas, is a great first result.”

Greenaway noted that the company was able to collect a representative channel sample through “good exposure” of the soil profile in roadside cutting.
“While these results are limited to the one exposure, mapping has revealed an extensive favourable parent basement lithology across much of the tenement, backed up by radiometric data, with well-developed residual regolith cover profile.”
Core Energy first commenced field operations at the project in June with airborne radiometric data indicating “strong” traces of thorium, uranium, and potassium along a 5.4km2 area.
These findings equate to 68% of the southern tenement area within the Tunas Project, which Core Energy believes to be prospective for rare earth element deposits.
