IperionX (ASX:IPX) has validated its GenX continuous titanium production platform after processing more than 500kg of titanium powder across four runs.
The continuous system achieved six times the throughput volume of traditional batch operations. The company reports all product samples met oxygen benchmarks, with angular powder meeting ASTM Grade 5 specifications and spherical powder achieving Grade 23.
Across 41 hours of processing at its Virginia facility, IperionX averaged a throughput rate of 12kg per hour. Relative to batch operations, the GenX system achieved operational efficiency gains of over 45% lower magnesium consumption, more than 60% reduced hydrogen consumption, and a power reduction of over 75%.
CEO Taso Arima says achieving continuous primary titanium production “has long been the ultimate aspiration for the titanium industry”.
“IperionX’s GenX process is a continuous titanium production platform that is more efficient to operate and easier to scale,” Arima says.
“These first results exceeded our expectations: more than 500 kilograms of recycled titanium powder processed across four separate runs, with every sample meeting its relevant oxygen specification.”
Arima adds that lower input consumption and higher throughput provide a ‘strong’ basis for industrial development.
In Q4 2026, IperionX intends to continue running the GenX furnace, integrate it into a full powder production line, and conduct technoeconomic evaluations for an industrial-scale line.
The platform is supported in part by recently reported US Army Task Order 2 under a US$99 million ($139 million) contract. However, the company notes GenX is not required to reach its existing 200 tonnes per annum production target in Virginia.
IperionX is an American titanium metal and critical materials company with its own Titan Critical Minerals Project in the US.
