Evion Group (ASX:EVG) has engaged Rangefront Mining Services to execute reconnaissance geological mapping and surface rock chip sampling at the Carp Fluorspar Project in Lincoln County, Nevada, US.
The expanded field program builds on a staged exploration plan announced on 29 June and focuses on the newly identified northwest extensional corridor and recently consolidated claim ground.
Elko-based Rangefront brings in-district experience relevant to the carbonate-replacement fluorspar style of mineralisation at Carp. The program is led by Rangefront’s field geologists and supported by Evion Head of Exploration Mark Fletcher.
According to Evion, mapping and sampling aim to define the geochemical footprint of the corridor and prioritise areas for follow-up surveys. This, the company notes, establishes a pathway toward drill-ready targets.
Managing Director David Round says Rangefront will help convert Carp’s geological potential into drill-ready targets “quickly and systematically”.
“Carp is a high-grade, US-domiciled fluorspar system in Nevada, one of the world’s premier mining jurisdictions, and the northwest corridor is where we see real scale beyond the four historic pits,” Round says.
“With the United States importing all of its fluorspar and defence-driven demand accelerating, this program is the next deliberate step toward establishing Carp as a scalable, domestic source of high-grade fluorspar.”
Between 1958 and 1971, approximately 44,900 tonnes @ around 69% calcium fluoride (CaF2) was mined from four shallow open pits and sold directly to Kaiser Steel Corporation as metspar without beneficiation.
Independent verification of 2024 surface rock chip sampling confirmed grades up to 88.15% CaF2 across all four historically mined pit areas.
The project comprises 59 unpatented lode claims covering approximately 493 hectares within the Viola Mining District, on Bureau of Land Management administered land roughly 140km northeast of Las Vegas.
The current program represents the first modern, integrated exploration of the Carp system since the 1970s.
Fluorspar is designated a critical mineral by the US, European Union, Australia, Canada, and Japan, with the US importing 100% of its fluorspar requirements. Global production of approximately 10.2 million tonnes in 2025 remains concentrated in China, Mongolia, and Mexico.
