Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) has staked 66 new mineral claims at its Yellow Cat Project in Utah’s Thompson District, which the company describes as ‘highly prospective’ for uranium and vanadium in shallow mineralisation.
Addition of the new claims, which were mapped during a recently-completed exploration program, is set to provide a 78% increase in project area to 12.6km², with approximately 2km of untested potential strike length.

Anson reports that the new claims sit over an east-west running mineralised trend, which shares characteristics with uranium and vanadium mineralisation found in the Salt Wash component of the Jurassic-period Morrison Formation sedimentary rock found in the western United States.
Previous exploration work across the project area has included hand-held XRF analysis and assays carried out in labs in both the United States and Canada, with grades of up to 10.33% U3O8 and 25.6% V2O5 achieved.
The surrounding Thompson District has seen historical uranium and vanadium production back to the late 1800s, with approximately 38,102 tonnes of ore averaging 0.30% U3O8 and 1.80% V2O5 produced between 1935 and 1954.
The large amount of work carried out during that period, in additional to subsequent exploration has resulted in a sizeable amount of data available for analysis.
Production in the district is underpinned by the White Mesa mill, which is the only fully-licensed and operating conventional uranium mill in the United States, with a capacity of 8+ million pounds of uranium per year.
