Talent Tuesday’s global leadership shifts

This week in talent moves, Codelco’s CEO Rubén Alvarado Vigar submitted his resignation after serving during what the company described as a “challenging period”, with Jorge Gómez Díaz appointed as incoming CEO from 13 July 2026.

Gómez is a civil mining engineer with more than 30 years of high-level experience in the mining industry. He has most recently led Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi for the past 14 years and was responsible for a major corporate transformation.

Gómez was recognised by EY Chile and El Mercurio as Executive of the Year in a 2025 award, recognising his contribution to the Chilean mining industry.

This follows Codelco’s appointment of Bernardo Fontaine Talavera as Chairman of the Board on 27 May. Fontaine has stressed the company’s mandate to produce in a “safe, efficient, and profitable manner”, with a new strategy focused on four strategic pillars: safety, maximising contributions to the treasury while avoiding additional debt, “getting the house in order” through transparency and clear management, and operational, economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

Codelco is a Chilean state-owned company and a global leader in copper production.
