Savannah Resources (LSE:SAV) is continuing to make progress on a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Barroso Lithium Project in Portugal, with a final review of some elements.
The remaining work is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Previous guidance is reconfirmed with completion expected in July.
Savannah is also near completion of associated formalities, including communicating with all relevant landowners, and has begun work preparing the ground for a planned fieldwork program.
Field teams are also working on Savannah-owned land plots, performing the annual pre-fire season vegetation clearing ahead of preparing the geotechnical campaign.
Meanwhile, the tendering process for an engineering contractor to conduct a front-end engineering study for key long-lead item equipment is well advanced. The company expects to select a provider in the coming weeks.
Once selected, the chosen contractor will begin work in June 2026.
Savannah has also purchased the first piece of equipment as part of the Barroso Project’s overall initial capital expenditure. A transformer has been purchased to form an integral part of the new electrical infrastructure at the project.
CEO Emanuel Proença says while relatively small, this equipment purchase avoids potential delays on an item that frequently suffers long delivery times worldwide.
“It also marks the beginning of the ‘build’ phase and reiterates our commitment to delivering the project,” Proença says.
“Further purchases and deposits for long-lead items will be made at the appropriate times as we move towards construction next year.”
The Barroso Lithium Project is considered among the largest battery-grade spodumene lithium resources in Europe.
Once operational, the project will produce enough lithium — 190,000 tonnes per year — for half a million vehicle battery packs annually.
Savannah Resources is focused on responsible development and operation of the project.
