Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) has its sights set on advancing the Mt Carrington Project in New South Wales, strengthening permitting and development pathways at the asset in the near future, Managing Director Chris Byrnes tells this news service.
On the sidelines of the Gold Coast Gold Conference last week, Byrnes explains that permitting and development pathways are key for the project, centred around historical mining licences the company currently holds.
“In conjunction with that, growing that resource and really sort of fleshing it out,” Byrnes tells Mining.com.au.
“We already know based on its footprint that we’re looking at one of the largest mineralised potential systems in New South Wales, and then we want to grow those resources and make additional discoveries.”
The company’s appearance at Gold Coast Gold follows shortly after its new gold discovery from its first ever diamond drillholes at the Mascotte prospect within Mt Carrington, as reported in mid-March 2026.
Legacy returned grades up to 5.6 grams per tonne gold and 72g/t silver from drilling beneath the 1.3km line of the Mascotte workings, with assays including 40m @ 1g/t gold from 151m, including 9m @ 2.7g/t gold from 180m and 1m @ 5.6g/t gold from 157m.
“It’s a significant development because it’s about 5km south of the main Mt Carrington ore body, which holds the bulk of the ore resource,” Byrne adds.
“It’s important for two reasons: It opens up or confirms this viewpoint that we’re looking at a mineral system here, hosted in this caldera that’s about 17km wide.
“We’re talking about a massive system. If we can get repeats of the deposits, that’s how you sort of build that multi-million ounce system potential.
“On the actual prospect scale, that is a significant strike in historical mine workings. They’ll see there was gold and silver there that they were mining historically, but the mineralisation looks very consistent to what we see at those other deposits as well.”
Legacy has planned additional drill programs for the Mt Carrington Project, with follow-up drilling planned for Mascotte.
The company is currently organising government approvals for drilling to go ahead.
“The big news flow will be the Scoping Study that’s coming out,” Byrne tells this news service.
“This is part of the dual-track approach in parallel to looking at the mineralogy, the metallurgy, and what the development pathway looks like, is this discovery pathway.
“The Scoping Study will be due in April, and we see that as a real game changer on the project, deploying new processing techniques that haven’t been explored.”
Legacy Minerals is a gold, silver, copper, and base metals explorer focused on discoveries in New South Wales.
The Gold Coast Gold Conference was held over two days (25-26 March 2026) at the QT Hotel in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.
Mining.com.au was a media partner for the Gold Coast Gold Conference 2026 and was in attendance over both days.
