Nordic unveils Kiimala’s ‘standout’ gold prospects

Nordic Resources (ASX:NNL) has identified ‘standout’ orogenic gold prospects within the Kiimala Trend Gold Project in central Finland, after completing a review of the exploration and drilling database.

Kiimala is one of three gold projects being acquired by Nordic from Swedish-listed gold exploration company Northgold (STO:NG). The transaction includes acquiring the Kopsa, Kiimala Trend, and Hirsikangas gold projects through Northgold’s two wholly owned Finnish subsidiaries Fennia Gold Oy (holder of the Kopsa project licences) and Lakeuden Malmi Oy (holder of the Kiimala Trend and Hirsikangas project licences).

Nordic, which has a market capitalisation of $9.75 million, says the transaction is expected to complete in early June 2025 and Nordic intends to begin its first drill program at Kopsa as soon as possible upon completion. The Kopsa project area is generally suitable for year-round drilling.

While the Kopsa gold-copper project has the largest known resource and is the most advanced project being acquired, Nordic’s review of the nearby Kiimala Trend has demonstrated the gold project is also well advanced and maintains “exciting exploration upside”.

The Kiimala Trend project is located in Nivala, Haapavesi, and Oulainen municipalities in central Finland. The project’s 27km2 regional land package includes eight active exploration licences and one exploration licence application.

Kiimala hosts eight drilled and four undrilled gold prospects along a discontinuous 15km trend. Nordic says eight of the 12 gold prospects identified at Kiimala have been drilled, with all eight indicating near-surface gold intersections. Two of the drilled prospects host historical non-compliant resources, including the Angesneva and Vesipera prospects.

The drilled prospects include the Angesneva and Vesipera prospects, which host historic non-compliant resources compiled and published by Belvedere Resources and GTK respectively. Now that the drilling database has been verified, resource validation work is ongoing.

At Angesneva, results include 79.8m at 1.85 grams per tonne gold and 0.18% copper from 127.8m and 15.2m at 5.31g/t gold and 0.31% copper from 272.1m. Meanwhile at Vesipera, results include 10.4m at 4.93g/t gold from 53.5m and 12m at 2.99g/t gold from 88m.

The Kiimala prospect shows intersections of 17.3m at 2.27g/t gold and 0.28% copper from 42.6m and 9m at 1.46g/t gold and 0.02% copper from 182.4m.

Executive Director Robert Wrixon says the company will also continue to focus on the exploration and development of the Kopsa Gold-Copper pProject.

“However, the exploration upside at the Kiimala trend project is hard to ignore as it is an extremely strong gold project,” Wrixon says.

Nordic Resources is a mineral explorer that owns multiple nickel-copper sulphide tenements across Finland.
