Nordic Nickel (ASX:NNL) has established a ‘highly experienced’ operational team to advance the exploration and development of its flagship Pulju Nickel Project in Finland.
The $21.31 million market capitalisation company says it has started building its in-country team in support of its strategy to become a supplier of sustainably sourced and traceable class-one nickel sulphides and critical minerals.
Nordic has appointed 38-year mining veteran Vern Langdale as its Country Manager in Finland. Langdale, who has ‘extensive’ experience in Finland as operations/mine manager with Nordic Gold Oy and Endomines Oy, will focus on the logistics and management of upcoming exploration and drilling programs.
The company says these programs have been designed to build on recent drilling and to target resource growth and new ‘high-grade’ massive sulphide discoveries at Pulju.
Meanwhile, ‘highly experienced’ executive Pekka Tuomela has been appointed as Nordic’s Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Manager.
The company notes Tuomela is ‘exceptionally’ well-connected in the Finnish environmental and mining permitting regime and will drive Nordic’s ESG and stakeholder engagement strategy in Finland.
Nordic Nickel Managing Director Todd Ross says these appointments put the company ‘in very good hands’ as it continues its exploration in Finland.
“I am delighted to announce these key operational appointments in Finland. With Vern now leading our operations and Pekka managing our stakeholder engagement and sustainability strategy, we are in very good hands.
“With Vern now leading our operations and Pekka managing our stakeholder engagement and sustainability strategy, we are in very good hands”
I believe that Vern will be a strong support and leader for our exploration project team in our resource expansion phase in Finland, while Pekka has an impeccable track record in working with local stakeholders and managing all aspects of responsible and sustaining exploration activities.”
Langdale studied mining engineering at the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall, England, and has gained experience across a wide variety of roles in mining projects and mines for many countries. He has also been involved in building and commissioning mines in China, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.
Tuomela has a Master of Science in geology from the University of Oulu in Finland and over 20 years of experience in exploration and mining projects across the globe.
Nordic Nickel currently holds a ‘district-scale’ landholding of projects in the ‘world-class’ Central Lapland Greenstone Belt in Finland.
The company’s Pulju project is considered prospective for nickel sulphide mineralisation and contains mafic-ultramafic lithologies analogous to Anglo American Finland’s Sakatti copper-nickel-platinum group element (PGE) deposit.
Nordic Nickel had $5.387 million cash and cash equivalents at hand as of 30 June 2023, according to its latest quarterly report.
