Nordic Nickel (ASX:NNL) has begun a 280-hole for 2,240m base of till (BOT) drilling campaign on the recently approved Holtinvaara licence, as part of the Pulju Nickel Project in Finland.
Managing Director Todd Ross says drilling marks the beginning of an ‘exciting’ new chapter in the company’s exploration work at Pulju.
“This is an entirely new exploration licence area which has never been explored previously, but which contains highly prospective geophysics signatures and prominent structure geological features.”
Nordic, which has a market capitalisation of $24.67 million, is focused on targeting the southern zone of 3 identified magnetic anomalies in the area.
End-of-hole samples will be analysed with X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and prospective samples will be sent to the ALS laboratory in Finland for analysis.
Ross says: “The interpreted extension of the prospective Mertavaara Formation opens up a new highly prospective area for potential new discoveries. The geochemical information obtained from this extensive BOT drilling program — which is effectively analogous to aircore or RAB drilling — will help us to vector into prospective target areas for follow-up diamond drilling.”
Holtinvaara lies 5km north-east of the Hotinvaara exploration licence, which hosts a current mineral resource of 418 million tonnes @ 0.21% Ni, 0.01% Co, 53 parts per million Cu for 862,800 tonnes of contained Ni, 40,000 tonnes of contained Co, and 22,100 tonnes of contained Cu.
The Pluju project covers a 240km-square tenement package in Finland’s Central Lapland Greenstone Belt.
