Nexus Minerals (ASX:NXM) has been granted a critical minerals exploration package of over 15,000km-square stretching from Omeo in southern Victoria to Nymagee in central New South Wales.
The company says results from a desktop review of opportunities identified have led Nexus to undertake one of the largest pegging exercises of ground in New South Wales.
Nexus reports a 12-month assessment and evaluation study resulted in securing a ‘significant underexplored’ ground position across the Lachlan Orogen’s Wagga-Omeo Zone (WOZ) that is considered ‘highly’ prospective for lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites.
Nexus reviewed geology and lithogeochemical data from the WOZ in southern New South Wales as part of a regional scale approach to select exploration ground for LCT pegmatite development and assess their fertility using open-file data compared to focusing only on known tin and lithium occurrences.
A review of open file geology and whole rock geochemistry confirmed that much of the exploration ground applied for in southern New South Wales is underlain by reduced, fractionated, peraluminous S-type granites similar to those associated with the spodumene-bearing pegmatites of the Dorchap Range in northwestern Victoria.
In Northeast Victoria, the company reports it has entered into an option agreement to explore and acquire the Merrimac Project which is known to host LCT pegmatites and tin mineralisation. This project also abuts an under-application held by Nexus that hosts known LCT pegmatites and tin mineralisation.

Commenting on the exploration package, Nexus Minerals Managing Director Andy Tudor says: “Whilst focused on our Wallbrook project in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, it has also been a very productive 12 months of work that has led Nexus to be able to establish a ‘significant’ ground position, in such a prospective region.

Nexus reports field crews are already on the ground to begin initial ground truthing across multiple project areas. The company also notes this critical minerals search is being undertaken concurrently with exploration planned for its Bethanga Porphyry Copper-Gold Project in Victoria.
