Metal Hawk (ASX: MHK) has intersected ‘high grade’ massive nickel sulphides from maiden RC drilling at the Commodore prospect within its Berehaven Nickel Project near Kalgoorlie.
Assays from the greenfields discovery, reported on 14 September, have returned results including 1m @ 5.89% Ni from 144m in hole BVNC002 , in a zone directly underneath 12m of intensely weathered gossanous ultramafic rocks.
The program included three RC holes for a total of 485m, drilled 5km north of the Blair Nickel Mine with historical output of 1.26Mt @ 2.62% Ni for 32,900 tonnes Ni.

Addressing the result, Metal Hawk Managing Director Will Belbin said: “We believe that the mineralised sulphide zone at Commodore may represent part of a significant untested komatiite system. This is an outstanding result at such an early stage and certainly validates our geological model and exploration targeting. The Berehaven Project is incredibly underexplored for nickel sulphides and we have several kilometres of prospective stratigraphy along strike from Commodore.”
Samples from hols BVNC002 nickel sulphide mineralisationGeochemistry work has indicated that there may be further nickel sulphides at depth, with assays returning further results including 9m @ 0.31% Ni, 185ppm Cu, 18ppb Pt and 34ppb Pd from 135m.
Further exploration including diamond and RC drilling is scheduled to begin at Commodore in October, with deeper drilling set to test the extent of nickel sulphide mineralisation, along with investigating conductive sources detected from downhole electromagnetic and moving loop transient electromagnetic surveys.
