Liberty Metals (ASX:LIB) has kicked off maiden exploration at its recently acquired Oko North and Oko South gold projects in Guyana’s Cuyuni Mining District.
The company has mobilised field teams for geological mapping, structural interpretation, and surface sampling, initially targeting numerous existing artisanal gold workings across the tenure.
Liberty is arranging a maiden systematic soil geochemical program of roughly 5,000 samples to commence shortly, supported by local field crews.
Portable PPB has been engaged to assay surface samples in-field using its DetectORE pXRF technology, which is expected to expedite assay turnaround and enable real-time target prioritisation ahead of a maiden drilling campaign.
The Oko projects span two consolidated blocks over roughly 60km of the district. Oko North directly abuts ground held by G2 Goldfields (TSX:GTWO), in proximity to the New Oko discovery, while Oko South covers the interpreted southern continuation of the mineralised trend.
Director and Non-Executive Chair Nicholas Katris says the acquisition has given Liberty a ‘district-scale’ position in “one of the most exciting gold camps in the world”.
“The real work starts now,” Katris says.
“We have wasted no time getting boots on the ground and beginning systematic exploration of ground that hosts the same greenstone-belt rocks and structural corridor as the Oko discoveries, yet has never been tested with modern techniques.”
Liberty holds a 90% interest in the project through a package of 40 granted medium-scale mining permits covering roughly 17,923 hectares across the two consolidated blocks.
The regional gold endowment sits at approximately 9.3 million ounces, substantially all discovered within the last five years.
The broader Oko district is rapidly consolidating around G Mining Ventures (TSX:GMIN), which completed the acquisition of G2 Goldfields last month (July).
Liberty says high-resolution satellite imagery is now being acquired to map structural architecture, while priority surface anomalies will be advanced with trenching and reconnaissance sampling.
Meanwhile, soil geochemical sampling will commence in Q3 2026.
The company notes the maiden exploration program is fully funded following a recently completed $5 million institutional placement alongside existing cash reserves.
Liberty Metals is an explorer focused on developing critical mineral projects like titanium, rare earths, and heavy mineral sands in Brazil and Western Australia..
