Former IAMGOLD chief joins Liberty board

Liberty Metals (ASX:LIB) has appointed former IAMGOLD (NYSE:IAG) chief executive Steve Letwin as a non-executive director.

Letwin brings four decades of senior leadership experience across the global resources and energy sectors, specialising in corporate finance, operational management, and mergers and acquisitions.

Having served as CEO of IAMGOLD for 10 years, Letwin positioned IAMGOLD as an intermediate gold producer with a market capitalisation of approximately C$11.5 billion ($11.6 billion).

Non-Executive Chairman Nicholas Katris says Liberty is ‘delighted’ to welcome an executive of Letwin’s calibre to the board.

“It is rare for a company of our size to attract a director who has led a multibillion-dollar, dual-listed gold producer for a decade and delivered across some of the world’s most demanding operating environments,” Katris says.

“Steve’s deep expertise in corporate finance, M&A and mine operations, together with his extensive North American capital markets network, will be invaluable as Liberty advances its project portfolio and pursues growth opportunities across the resources sector.”

Prior to joining IAMGOLD, Letwin was Executive Vice President, Gas Transportation and International with Enbridge (TSX:ENB). He also previously served as president and operations chief of TransCanada Energy and held senior finance roles with TransCanada Pipelines (TSE:TRP), Numac Energy, and Encor Energy.

Letwin is currently the chief executive of Mancal. He also serves as a director of Hess Midstream (NYSE:HESM), and chairs the board of Cassiar Gold (TSX-V:GLDC).

Liberty Metals is an explorer focused on developing critical mineral projects like titanium, rare earths, and heavy mineral sands in Brazil and Western Australia.
