Australian resource exploration company Koba Resources (ASX:KOB) reports it has ‘significantly’ increased its battery metals portfolio with the acquisition of 2 additional ‘high-quality’ lithium (Li2O) pegmatite projects in Canada.
The company says it has acquired the JB1 Lithium Project in Quebec and the Davidson Lithium Project in Ontario. JB1 is located 12km west of the Rose Lithium Deposit, and 18km east of the Pontax Lithium Deposit where ASX-listed Cygnus Gold (ASX:CY5) is currently undertaking a resource definition drilling program.
The Davidson Lithium Project is located adjacent to Koba’s Whitlock Lithium Project which lies immediately along strike from the Tanco Lithium-Caesium-Tantalum (LCT) Pegmatite Mine, which the company says is Canada’s only operating lithium mine.
Koba Resources Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ben Vallerine says it is excited to have acquired 2 new projects in the world’s best lithium provinces in Canada.
“The James Bay area is emerging as a world-class lithium district”
“The James Bay area is emerging as a world-class lithium district. Multiple large lithium resources have been delineated in close proximity to the company’s new JB1 Lithium Project. Two ASX-listed companies, Patriot Battery Metals (ASX:PMT) and Winsome Resources (ASX:WR1), have had some very promising exploration success in the region recently and our new projects allow us the opportunity to replicate that success.
And our new Davidson Lithium Project is strategically located along strike from our Whitlock Lithium Project. It is a logical addition to our landholding with operational synergies and most importantly, it provides us additional opportunities to discover lithium bearing pegmatites along strike from the world-class Tanco Mine.”

Koba reports JB1 comprises 2 granted claim blocks that cover an area of around 190km-square within the James Bay region of Quebec. The company states it has never been explored for lithium despite its proximity to some ‘very large’ lithium resources, several of which are on the cusp of development.
It also says the project is ‘highly’ prospective for lithium-bearing pegmatites and is situated in a similar geological environment to the Rose Lithium Deposit located 12km to the east. The total resource for Rose is 34.2 million tonnes @ 0.9% Li2O.
JB1 is also 18km to the west of the Pontax Lithium Deposit where historical drilling results include an intersection of 9m @ 1.7% Li2O.
Koba reports the Davidson Lithium Project is located in western Ontario and comprises 11 granted claims covering 50km-square. The project is located immediately east of the company’s recently acquired Whitlock Lithium Project.
The company states multiple large lithium resources are also present in this district with the most significant being the Tanco Mine which hosts 7.3 million tonnes @ 2.76% Li2O; 2.1 million tonnes @ 0.22% tantalum (Ta2O5); and 350,000 tonnes @ 23.3% caesium (Cs2O2).
Koba notes Tanco is the world’s largest producer of caesium and contains the largest tantalum reserves in Canada.
In addition to these new acquisitions, Koba also reports it has entered an option agreement that provides the right to purchase the Python Lithium Project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The company states the granted exploration licence for Python covers 60km-square, and is ‘highly’ prospective for lithium-bearing pegmatites.
Koba reports it will implement concerted work programs at the Jb1, Whitlock, Davidson and Python projects to bring targets to drill-ready stage by mid-2023. Work programs will include compiling all previous exploration data and reviewing available aerial and geophysics imagery so field programs can target ‘high-priority’ areas.
The company will also undertake a detailed field mapping and systematic geochemical sampling program including investigating known pegmatites and exploration for additional pegmatites to generate drill targets, as well as commencing drilling to test identified targets in the second half of 2023.
Koba Resources is an Australian resources company exploring a portfolio of ‘high-grade’ lithium and cobalt projects in North America to support the electric vehicle revolution and the path to zero emissions.
Its assets include the JB1, Davidson and Whitlock lithium projects in Canada, as well as the Colson Cobalt-Copper, Elkhorn Copper, Goodsprings Copper-Cobalt, Panther Copper-Cobalt, and the Blackpine Cobalt-Copper projects in the US.
