ASX-listed explorer Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX:KAL) has recorded up to 39.6g/t Au in rock chip samples at its Zelica Gold Mine in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.
The company reports that as part of a recently completed reconnaissance campaign, it collected numerous samples from outcrops, shallow excavations, and historical reverse circulation (RC) drill chip material along a mineralised corridor that extends the entire north-south length of the tenement.
This corridor extends from off-tenure at the Zelica Gold Mine and southward along the length of tenement E39/2188, covering about 6.8km within the tenement.
Kalgoorlie Gold reports the ‘high’ of 39.6g/t Au result was returned from a vuggy quartz-k-feldspar-carbonate vein exposed in a shallow excavation at the West Nest prospect.

At Eucalyptus Bore, selective grab sampling of weathered RC drill chips from a small RC drill program completed in 2006 returned a high of 1.08g/t Au, which confirmed anomalous intercepts recorded in EUG004 and EUG006. These holes intersected 1m @ 3.02g/t Au from 16m and 1m @ 2.54g/t Au from 15, respectively.
Additionally, an excision in the centre of the tenement and midway along the mineralised corridor contains minor historic workings at Murphy Well 2 and 3. Shallow RC drilling completed in the 1980s here returned results including MDW5 with 4m @ 3.08g/t Au from 15m and MDW6 with 8m @ 1.4g/t Au from 9m.
Kalgoorlie Gold reports it is determining the ‘most appropriate’ way to initiate systematic exploration at the Zelica Project given the ‘encouraging’ early results. The company says rock chipping was incorporated into this initial program to assist with identifying the rock type and assessing the mineralisation potential.
Only gold assays have been returned to date, and follow-up work programs will most likely include auger geochemical sampling and field mapping to refine targets.
Commenting on the results, Kalgoorlie Gold Mining Managing Director Matt Painter says: “KalGold’s outstanding portfolio of projects continues to impress.
“it is clear the Zelica Project demands more attention”
With first-pass surface sampling producing assays in excess of a troy ounce per tonne, it is clear the Zelica Project demands more attention. KalGold is presently defining future work programs through the project area to follow up on these very encouraging results.”
Kalgoorlie Gold is an Australian gold explorer with a portfolio of ‘proven, low-cost’ gold assets across Western Australia. These assets include the Bulong Taurus, Pinjin, Rebecca, Perrinvale, and Zelica gold projects.
The Zelica Project lies 70km east of Kookynie in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia and is the focus of early-stage exploration programs within the Keith-Kilkenny Tectonic Zone.
