Kalgoorlie Gold Mining restarts Lighthorse RC drilling

Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX:KAL) has restarted reverse circulation (RC) drilling at the Lighthorse prospect within its Pinjin Gold Project in Western Australia.

The company plans to drill up to 19 holes for 3,200m after mobilising a rig to the site on 24 July. The three-week program will test extensions to primary gold mineralisation previously intersected north-northwest of the original Lighthorse discovery area.

Infill and extensional drilling will reduce spacing to about 50m by 40m across the most encouraging mineralisation identified to date, the company notes. Further holes will test areas within earlier RC coverage and the northern extension of a north-south magneto-metric conductivity anomaly.

KalGold says earlier drilling showed a correlation between the geophysical anomaly and gold mineralisation, which remains open to the north.

The new holes will be drilled at a 60-degree angle towards the east to intersect steeply west-dipping structures within the mineralised corridor.

Meanwhile, KalGold has completed about 140 holes, or 55%, of a first-pass aircore program across the Laverton Tectonic Zone (LTZ) flexure target area, 3.5km southeast of Kirgella Gift-Providence.

Hole depths have averaged about 35m, compared with the 50m estimated before drilling began.

Drilling has encountered intermediate, mafic, and ultramafic rocks in the west and units of the Rebecca Sequence, including granitic gneiss, granite, and amphibolite, in the east.

The boundary between the geological sequences forms an LTZ structure marked by shearing, quartz veining, and several alteration styles. Aircore drilling is scheduled for completion in the coming weeks, with assay results to follow.

Results from RC drilling completed at Kirgella Gift and Providence in late May remain pending due to extended laboratory turnaround times.

Pinjin lies about 140km northeast of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 25km north of Ramelius Resources’ (ASX:RMS) Rebecca Gold Project.
