Kairos Minerals (ASX:KAI) is awaiting a potential name change to further represent the company’s position as a primarily gold-focused explorer targeting the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
Speaking to Mining.com.au at the Gold Coast Gold Conference yesterday (25 March), Managing Director Peter Turner explains Kairos is looking to change its name to Pilbara Gold, trading under the ASX ticker ‘PGL’, following a shareholder vote.
“Pilbara Gold because it’s what we do and where we are,” Turner says.
“We’ve got a really good gold project that I think has a lot of growth potential and we want to really be known with where we’re developing the project, which is in the Pilbara, and who we are as a company and what we are focusing on.”
The name change reflects Kairos’s previous shared focus on lithium due to a lithium mine nearby to the company’s exploration focus.
“The board was keen to explore to see whether we had lithium mineralisation on our ground, but we are completely now focused back on the main asset, which is Mount York, and developing the project,” Turner explains to Mining.com.au.
“We’ve drilled it enough. We believe that this is the best strategy for shareholders to actually drill an asset, which has turned out to have the growth profile that I thought it would have when I joined four years ago.”
Shareholders will vote on the name change at a meeting next Monday (30 March), along with a share consolidation on a 15-for-one basis, which will result in the company holding 224 million shares on issue over 3.3 billion.
“That’s really all in the strategy to build the company into a more streamlined company to take the project through to development,” Turner adds.
“If the consolidation goes ahead on Monday, then effectively shareholders can be pretty happy that we’re not going to be diluting shareholders again for the foreseeable future because we’ve got $35 million to take this project through to a development stage now.”
As reported by Mining.com.au, Kairos is targeting an updated resource estimate for the Mt York Gold Project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, covering the entirety of the asset’s 1,500m extension.
Turner says the company will put out the resource estimate in April 2026.
The Gold Coast Gold Conference is running over two days (25–26 March 2026) at the QT Hotel in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.
Mining.com.au is a media partner for the Gold Coast Gold Conference and will be in attendance over both days.
