Eclipse Metals identifies rare earths and polymetallic potential at Ivittuut, Greenland

Eclipse Metals (ASX: EPM) has announced ‘highly-anomalous’ rare earths and polymetallic results from further multi-element assays at its Ivittuut Project in southwest Greenland.

The results were generated from grab samples collected at the project’s Ivigtut and Gronnedal-Ika prospects, with significant values including:

  • Sample I21007: 22.20% F, 8.60g/t Ag and 0.12% Cu
  • Sample I21012: 26.00% F, 165.00g/t Ag, 0.14% Cu, 3.83% Pb and 0/37% Zn
  • Sample G21014: 0.32% La, 0.83% Ce, >0.10% Pr, 0.43% Nd, 0.07% Sm, 0.05% Gd and 0.06% Y
  • Sample G21016: 0.60% La, >10.00% Ce, >0.10% Pr, 0.82% Nd, >0.10% Sm, >0.10% Gd, and 0.86% Y
  • Sample G21017: 0.27% La, 0.73% Ce, 0.10% Pr, 0.39% Nd, 0.07% Sm, 0.05% Gd and 0.05% Y
  • Sample G21011: >0.25% Nb, 34.00g/t Ag, 0.96% Pb, 0.15% Cu, 0.16% Sn, 200ppm Li and 4.40% F

The company interprets these results as providing ‘significant’ potential for heavy and light rare earths mineralisation at Ivittuut.

Speaking on the results, Eclipse Metals Chairman Carl Popal said: “Further results from Ivigtut and Gronnedal-Ika highlight the polymetallic nature of these prospects, in particular the REE potential with both heavy and light REE mineralisation evident.

Some initial results exceed testing limits for the analytical method used and these samples are being further analysed. When final results are received and analysed, a targeted exploration program will be designed in time to take advantage of the northern summer season to further advance evaluation of our projects in Greenland.”

The Ivittuut project is located in southwestern Greenland on the 100%-owned project tenement MEL2007-45.

The project is the world’s largest and only known source of naturally occurring cryolite, with 3.8 million tonnes of ore at a grade of 58% cryolite being mined throughout its 120-year development.

Eclipse reports that it is awaiting results from further testing of over-limit samples, while also planning a targeted exploration program to further advance evaluation of its other projects across Greenland.
