Bass confirms new oil discovery at Bunian

Bass Oil (ASX:BAS) has confirmed a new oil discovery in the M sand reservoir at its Bunian field within the Tangai‑Sukananti KSO in South Sumatra, Indonesia, with initial flow rates reaching 2,400 barrels per day.

The M sand flowed approximately 2,400 barrels of oil per day during a short clean‑up flow, recovering 100 barrels of oil with no water.

The company says this represents the ‘first oil pay’ intersected from this zone in the Bunian field, though the M sand is the primary producing zone in the adjacent Tangai oil field.

Subsequent flow testing on the M zone produced 1,264 barrels per day over three hours at a reduced choke and flowing pressure of 415psi, with no water recovered.

Managing Director Tino Guglielmo says the result ‘exceeded pre‑drill expectations’ and will increase field oil recoveries.

“The Bunian 6 well result has exceeded our pre-drill expectations. The oil pay identified in the highly productive M sand is a welcome bonus and will increase field oil recoveries,” Guglielmo says.

Bunian 6 is expected to boost Indonesian oil production from 250 barrels to at least 750 barrels per day on a 100% share basis. Bass operates the Tangai‑Sukananti KSO with a 55% interest, alongside joint venture partner Mega Adhyaksa Pratama Sukananti (45%).

A production testing program will now commence to confirm reservoir parameters for all three oil zones and aid in selecting which zone to produce first.

Bass Oil is an Australian oil producer holding majority interests across Cooper Basin permits alongside a 55% operated interest in the Tangai-Sukananti Joint Operation Contract (KSO) in Indonesia.
