Barrick appoints Bock as rest-of-world CEO

Barrick Mining (NYSE:B) has appointed Sebastiaan Bock as chief executive officer for rest-of-world operations, effective immediately.

Bock will lead the company’s gold and copper operations and projects outside North America, reporting to President and CEO Mark Hill.

The rest-of-world portfolio spans Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, producing more than 2 million ounces gold equivalent annually. The portfolio is expected to grow by more than 20% over the next three years.

Chairman John Thornton says the rest-of-world portfolio has a distinct advantage through the company’s ability to work with Chinese partners, including joint mine ownership and co-investment.

Hill says Bock’s experience across operations, finance, strategic planning, geopolitical issues, human resources, and risk management makes him ideal for the role.

“Seb is the ideal person to grow our rest-of-world business. He is a perfect example of Barrick’s deep and global bench and the integrity and character of its leaders,” Hill notes.

Bock joined Barrick as senior VP and CFO for Africa and Middle East in January 2019, before being appointed COO for the region in July 2022. Under his guidance, the region has met or exceeded guidance every year and achieved significant growth.

Bock has led the Lumwana expansion, the resolution of the situation in Mali, the achievement of record throughput at Kibali, and the growth of gold reserves at Loulo-Gounkoto and Bulyanhulu.

Barrick Mining operates across 17 countries and five continents, with one of the largest portfolios of gold and copper assets in the industry.
