Asian markets are set to open higher with the ASX up 0.24% at the open following the European Union agreeing to a trade deal with the United States so as to avoid a protracted trade war.
The Dow Jones finished 0.5% higher on Friday while European’s major markets, the London FTSE and Germany’s DAX closed lower to end the trading week.
Bellevue Gold (ASX:BGL) is the best performing major mining stock on the ASX, up 4%, followed by Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX), higher by 3%.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.
It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
