West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1) has identified extensive hydrothermal alteration extending beyond historical fluorspar mines at its Baxter Project in Nevada, US, following a satellite spectral analysis.
The study revealed previously unrecognised targets prospective for fluorite mineralisation along a 3km corridor, with alteration patterns indicating Baxter may represent the upper levels of a larger hydrothermal system.
“The work has identified a larger hydrothermal footprint containing previously unrecognised fluorite targets,” Managing Director Matt Szwedzicki says.
“This strengthens our view that Baxter may represent the upper levels of a larger mineral system.”
The company recently entered a binding agreement to acquire 100% of Baxter, subject to a 30-day due diligence period.
The Kaiser Mine historically produced approximately 200,000 tonnes of fluorspar from underground mining between 1928 and 1957, including premium acid-grade concentrate grading 97–98% calcium fluoride.
Spectral analysis identified hydrothermal alteration extending over several square kilometres beyond known workings.
Priority target areas are characterised by clay and gas-related alteration assemblages consistent with intrusive-related hydrothermal systems.
The project comprises 51 contiguous claims totalling approximately 4.3km² on Bureau of Land Management land in southwest Nevada, about 150km southeast of Reno.
Historical drilling and underground development over 680m of strike suggest continuity of mineralisation along strike and at depth. Several other historical workings occur within a southwest-trending 3km by 1km corridor.
Initial due diligence includes technical review, ground inspection, and surface sampling. The next stage follows with geological mapping, systematic surface sampling, and drill targeting.
West Cobar Metals is advancing the Baxter fluorspar project in Nevada, alongside the Salazar Critical Mineral and Mystique Gold projects in Western Australia and the Cobar West Copper Project in New South Wales.
