Volt Resources (ASX:VRC) is advancing production of a high-purity graphite circuit at its proposed Alabama Refinery in the United States, part of the company’s plan to become a near-term commercial-scale producer of high-purity graphite.
The company is continuing testwork and pilot plant operation for the ultra-high purity graphite process, as part of the second stage of development at the Alabama Refinery.
Stage one of the process is focused on producing 99.5% high-purity graphite using Volt’s process technology previously deployed at the Zavalievsky Graphite operations in Ukraine.
Zavalievsky Graphite has since produced and sold high-purity graphite to customers across Europe, Korea, and Japan since 2017.
Volt, which has a market capitalisation of $23.42 million, has recently received an order for high-purity graphite from a US provider of graphite and carbon solutions which will be supplied by Zavalievsky Graphite initially.
In parallel, discussions with potential customers will progress for the Alabama Refinery product.
Once sufficient product offtakes are in place and the stage one work is complete, Volt says it will be confident of being able to fund the relatively low capital expenditure required to move to commercial production in the US.
CEO Prashant Chintawar says the company is entering an important stage in establishing secure, sustainable purified graphite supply for the US market.
“We remain focused on advancing the proposed Alabama Graphite Refinery using our innovative and proven technology, while we continue developing advanced purification methods that support strong environmental, social, and governance and cost outcomes,” Chintawar says.
Volt Resources is an established graphite producer and advanced materials developer.
The company has a 70% interest in the Zavalievsky Graphite business in Ukraine. The Zavalievsky Graphite mine and processing facilities have been in operation since 1934 and are near key markets with developments in lithium-ion battery production.
