Yesterday, The Perth Mint poured a branded gold bar to celebrate 125 years of operation as a gold refiner and producer.
Since opening in 1899, The Perth Mint has contributed to Western Australia through refining gold and exporting coins and minted bars across the world.
CEO Paul Graham says The Perth Mint will continue to invest in refining and manufacturing operations to make it more efficient, clean, and safe.
“This will ensure we can continue taking to the world the incredible products we’re renowned for and play and integral role supporting the gold industry and the state’s strong economy,” he says.
“As we take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the role we have played for 125 years supporting the development of our state, we are also firmly focused on the present as an organisation that employs more than 700 people who are all working hard to deliver the best possible results on behalf of the West Australian community.”
In 2022-23, the mint produced more than 19 million coins.
It is considered Australia’s oldest working mint and refines nearly 80% of Australia’s newly mined gold.
Further, The Perth Mint released a limited mintage 125th Anniversary Australia Sovereign 2024 Gold Proof Coin, which commemorates the gold sovereigns that were produced at the Mint until 1931.
The Perth Mint is Australia’s official mint and is wholly owned by the Western Australian Government.
