Tombola Gold (ASX:TBA) has reported ‘strong’ gold assays following the two latest RC drill holes at the Mt Scheelite Target near the flagship Mt Freda Gold Mine in Cloncurry, Queensland.
Key results include:
- Hole MS22RC003: 6m @ 6.9g/t Au from 47m
- Hole MS22RC004: 18m @ 5.1g/t Au from 23m, incl.
- 6m @ 5.5g/t Au from 23m, 3m @ 1.8g/t Au from 30m and 5m @ 8.7g/t Au from 36m
The results were generated from the final two holes of a four-hole RC program, and follow additional gold mineralisation that was intersected from earlier holes including:
- Hole MS22RC001: 21m @ 3.27 g/t from 34m, incl.
- 4m @ 11.53 g/t from 34m
- Hole MS22RC002: 19m @ 1.5 g/t Au from 51m, incl.
- 5m @3.35 g/t Au from 51m
Addressing the results, Tombola Gold Managing Director Byron Miles said: “The highly encouraging results from holes 003 and 004 at Mt Scheelite, following on from the significant intersections reported on the 16TH of May 2022, confirm our belief that Mt Scheelite can host a shallow, open- pitable gold deposit to provide additional feed to the Mt Freda operations.”
“The highly encouraging results from holes 003 and 004…confirm our belief that Mt Scheelite can host a shallow, open- pitable gold deposit”
The company notes that these recent results confirm the potential for the Mt Scheelite Target to contain ‘significant’ near-surface gold mineralisation within proximity to the flagship Mt Freda Mine.
In addition, the returned assays define a strike length of approximately 90m, with gold mineralisation remaining open to the north, south and at depth.

The Mt Freda Gold Mine is part of the Mt Freda complex within the Cloncurry district of Western Queensland, with the project being mined by ASX-listed Diversified Mineral Resources in 1980’s.
Work at the project during that time resulted in a head-grade of over 5g/t Au with recoveries in excess of 98%. The deposit was mined to around 40m depth, which the company says provides further potential at depth.
Moving forward, an addition drill rig is expected to arrive at Mt Scheelite next month to begin infill and extensional drilling.
