Taiton Resources begins UF soil sampling survey at Highway Project, South Australia

Early-stage explorer Taiton Resources (ASX:T88) is undertaking an ultrafine (UF) soil sampling program to better understand the nature of its Highway Project in South Australia.

The company considers Highway to be prospective for ionic clay rare earth elements (REE), noting other ASX-listed explorers such as Petratherm (ASX:PTR) and Indiana Resources (ASX:IDA) have discovered REEs in the Gawler Craton region.

The UF survey will be completed on a 5km-by-5km area covering the alteration of the surface based on geophysical and geological data collection and interpretation.

Taiton says the program will be completed on a nominal 100m-by-100m grid across the interpreted potassic and phyllic alteration footprint before being increased to 200m-by-200m once outside the surface expression of alteration.

The scale of the potential hydrothermal system in place requires Taiton to consider all potential mineralisation styles in the region. As a result, the company will analyse for the full suite of elements, including molybdenum, base metals, and rare earth elements (REE).

Commenting on the UF survey, Taiton Resources Executive Director Noel Ong says: “The initiation of the ultrafine soil survey is exciting, as this is a clear sign that the geochemical data collection process is underway. The company has been looking toward the geochemical collection phase as the first path towards discovery for the company.

The company has been looking toward the geochemical collection phase as the first path towards discovery”

The potential of a large discovery is still in front of us, but this is still an exciting time because we have been working hard to get to this phase since December 2022.

The soil collection will complement the upcoming drilling program, as the findings of the soil survey will be able to help the exploration team in vectoring targets.

The company has always been upfront in our belief that the drilling may possibly open this part of the Gawler Craton as a new mineral province in South Australia.”

On 4 May 2023, Taiton reported that an induced polarisation (IP) survey supported the proposed geological model of a potential porphyry intrusive source driving a hydrothermal mineral system at Highway.

Taiton Resources is an early-stage explorer that listed on the ASX on 14 December 2022. The company is focused on discovering ‘large’ mineral deposits across its Highway and Challenger West projects in South Australia, along with the Lake Barlee Project in Western Australia.

The company had $5.266 million cash at hand on 31 March, according to its latest quarterly report published on 27 April 2023.
