Summit Minerals (ASX:SUM) has identified numerous new exploration targets through Sentinel Multispectral data and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) work over its Castor Lithium Project in Canada.
The $5.87 million market capitalisation company says remote image processing specialist Dirt Exploration was contracted to acquire, process, and analyse the Sentinel and SAR data, which uncovered broadly prospective areas of interest for pegmatite and lithium.
These areas are now being ranked and prioritised based on Sentinal and SAR responses, geological mapping, and known rock geochemistry.
All up, Summit says the satellite and radar analyses generated over 100 targets for field investigation by rock chipping and mapping. This work has fast-tracked planning for explorations once fire restrictions at the Castor project are lifted.
Commenting on this discovery, Summit Minerals Exploration Manager Jonathan King says: “The application of remote sensing techniques at Castor has culminated in us identifying multiple targets, including interpreted outcropping pegmatites and potential pegmatite-bearing structures.”

King adds that many of these targets show spectral and petrophysical similarities to the lithium-bearing pegmatites found across Patriot Battery Metals’ (ASX:PMT) nearby Corvette Project and Winsome Resources’ (ASX:WR1) Cancet Project.
Summit notes to further evaluate the study results, it plans to fly high-resolution LiDAR towards the end of the month or early next month.
Further, once access to the property has been approved, the company will conduct helicopter-supported property traverses to map and collect rockchips from the pegmatite occurrences and the interpreted Sentinel and SAR targets. This is expected to take 3 weeks to complete.
The Castor Project is located in the James Bay area of Quebec, Canada.
