Patriot Battery Metals (ASX:PMT) CEO Ken Brinsden says the company is moving its Shaakichiuwaanaan Lithium Project, located in Canada, from discovery to mine authorisation process.
“Within the approvals process to date, engagement with both the Cree Nation Government, provincial and federal authorities has been constructive and timely,” Brinsden says.
The planning phase of the Federal environmental and social impact assessment process is formally complete, culminating in the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) publishing its Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and a detailed permitting plan for the project.
Concurrently, a Provincial Environmental and Social Impact Assessment is targeted for late 2025 and the equivalent Federal application will be submitted shortly thereafter.
Patriot Battery says the permitting plan is consistent with its previously estimated and reported overall mine authorisation timeline.
Since submitting an initial project description, Patriot has engaged with the Federal Joint Assessment Committee – representatives of IAAC and the Cree Nation Government.
The IAAC has conducted a formal planning and public comment period, which is considered an important milestone and indicates the formal commencement of the impact assessment phase of Shaakichiuwaanaan.
“It cant be underestimated how much work has already been achieved by Patriot to ensure Shaakichiuwaanaan is well-placed in the global lithium raw material development pipeline,” Brinsden adds.
The Shaakichiuwaanaan Project, located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec, hosts a consolidated resource totalling 108 million tonnes @ 1.40% lithium oxide, 0.11% caesium oxide, 155 parts per million (ppm) tantalum pentoxide, and 66ppm gallium oxide in the indicated category, as well as 33.4 million tonnes @ 1.33% lithium oxide, 0.21% caesium oxide, 155ppm tantalum pentoxide, and 65ppm gallium oxide.
