Southern Hemisphere Mining (ASX:SUH) has commenced diamond drilling at the Ferro South zone within its Llahuin Copper-Gold-Molybdenum Project in Chile.
The company plans to drill approximately 2,000m over 10 weeks. It may extend the program depending on geological observations and results. Initial holes are designed to test approximately 300m downhole, with selected holes potentially extended to 500m where warranted.
The program follows the company’s copper discovery at Ferro South. It aims to test the extent and continuity of mineralisation and investigate potential feeder zones within the broader Llahuin system.
A VectOres copper isotope study has identified isotopic vectors which may indicate potential for deeper mineralisation within the Cerro-Ferro system.
The analysis examines variations in naturally occurring copper isotopes, including delta Cu-65 and delta Cu-63. These isotopes may provide exploration vectors toward the source of copper-bearing hydrothermal fluids.
Chairman Mark Stowell says the company is working to discover a copper-gold-molybdenum mine at Llahuin to supply copper into “predicted future supply shortages”.
“Our drilling is getting closer as we vector towards the anticipated copper-gold feeder zones,” Stowell adds.
Drilling will test these targets and provide information on the geometry, continuity, and potential depth extent of the mineralised system. Drill core will be geologically logged, sampled, and submitted for laboratory analysis.
Southern Hemisphere expects initial assay results towards the end of November, subject to laboratory turnaround times. The company will report material results as they become available.
