Pioneer uncovers pegmatites outcrops at Root Lake

Pioneer Lithium (ASX:PLN) has uncovered multiple pegmatite outcrops from maiden exploration at its 90% owned Root Lake Lithium Project in Ontario, Canada.

The $16.84 million market capitalisation company says these pegmatites were defined along the extended Morrison trend in the northwestern portion of the project area along strike from Green Technology Metals (ASX:GT1) Morrison-McCombe pegmatite system.

The company says this represents an ‘extremely positive’ start to the maiden exploration program at Root Lake.

These outcrops have been interpreted to be up to 4m wide and 10m in length over a 3km strike length, as well as open in multiple directions. However, the outcrops are concealed beneath thick overburden and dense vegetation.

Pioneer reports programs of systematic mapping, grab sampling, and lithogeochemical channel sampling are now underway and will be undertaken in conjunction with fieldwork.

Fieldwork over the coming weeks will test the Central Corridor in the southeastern portion of the project area.

Commenting on the early success at Root Lake, Pioneer Lithium Chief Executive Officer Clinton Booth says the company is encouraged by these results and will look ahead to its drilling program.

“Whilst the thick overburden has limited the team’s prospecting and mapping activities, it is extremely pleasing to see these initial encouraging results. The discovery of multiple pegmatites at Extended Morrison confirms our initial expectations of the potential for the continuation of the Morrison-McCombe pegmatite system. We are looking forward to including this information to support the design of the upcoming drilling program.”

Pioneer Lithium had $5 million cash at hand as of 28 September 2023 following an oversubscribed initial public offering (IPO). The company currently has a market capitalisation of $16.84 million.

At the time of listing, Executive Chairman Robert Martin said with a then market capitalisation of $9.4 million and an enterprise value of just $4.3 million at listing, Pioneer Lithium represents an exceptional opportunity for investors.

“We have a well-developed strategy to accelerate our growth pathway and, thanks to the strategic location of our assets at the epicentre of the North American battery materials industry, we are ideally placed to become a lithium developer and operator in the near term. We are all looking forward to the exciting journey ahead.”

Pioneer Lithium’s majority-owned Root Lake project comprises 94 claims totalling 1,927 hectares within the eastern Superior Province in Ontario, Canada. Rockex Mining (CSE:RXM) currently holds the remaining 10% of the project.
