Pilbara Gold strengthens board and management team

Pilbara Gold (ASX:PGL) has restructured its board and management team as the company focuses on advancing its Mt York Gold Project in Western Australia towards development.

The company has appointed mining engineer Martin Reed as a non-executive director.

Reed has more than 50 years of senior operational experience with Australian and African gold and copper mining companies. He has previously worked with Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR), Saracen Mineral Holdings, Endeavour Mining (LSE:EDV), and St Barbara (ASX:SBM).

Pilbara Gold says Reed is expected to bring a “wealth of experience” in studies, development, gold mine construction, and operations.

The company has also appointed experienced metallurgist and project manager Jeff Bowen as Study Manager to oversee the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) and Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) at Mt York.

Bowen has almost 30 years of experience in study management, production metallurgy, and process engineering across gold, copper-gold, and base metal projects.

He previously worked with Sandfire Resources as Manager of Engineering and Studies, overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of the Motheo Copper Project, as well as study management for the Black Butte Project PFS.

Meanwhile, Robert Klug will step down from the company’s board to transition into a full-time role as Chief Legal and Financial Officer.

Klug joined Pilbara Gold in June 2024 and is a resources and corporate lawyer with a background in finance.

He has more than 30 years of experience with ASX-listed companies and previously worked with Sandfire Resources as Chief Commercial Officer and General Counsel.

Chairman Simon Lill says investors are comfortable that Pilbara Gold has the “skills and capability to build the Mt York Gold Project”.

“To that end, the three new appointments are the first step in that direction and prove our intent,” Lill says.

“Martin Reed, in particular, has great experience in gold studies and plant construction and will be a tremendous addition and support to the board and project management team.”

Managing Director Peter Turner says the company’s focus is on developing Mt York into “the Pilbara’s next gold mine”.

“Martin and Jeff are an exceptional duo who both have proven track records of developing gold projects through to operating mines within tight timeframes and I look forward to working with both as we develop this premier asset,” Turner says.

“Rob’s move from the Pilbara Gold Board to the Chief Legal and Finance Officer role comes at a critical time as we build the strength of the corporate and finance teams ahead of development and project financing.”

Pilbara Gold is focused on advancing its flagship Mt York Project, along with its portfolio of gold projects in the Pilbara and Eastern Goldfields.
