Nelson Resources (ASX:NES) has observed copper oxide mineralisation in the southern portion of its Gold Point Project in Nevada, US, with a systematic soil sampling program now underway.
The company reports copper minerals dominated by chrysocolla with subordinate malachite and chalcocite in dump and float material approximately 1.5km east of the centre of the Le Champ copper‑molybdenum‑gold porphyry target within the Sylvania Intrusive Complex.
The observations build on previously reported rock‑chip sampling results that returned significant copper values, including up to 4.88% copper from a malachite‑bornite‑chalcopyrite‑bearing vein.
“The observation of extensive chrysocolla-rich copper oxide mineralisation in dump and float material roughly one and a half kilometres east of the Le Champ target is a useful addition to the copper story at Gold Point,” Non‑Executive Chairman Gernot Abl says.
During recent reconnaissance mapping, field teams observed widespread copper oxide coatings and impregnations on surface rocks. Representative dump and float samples have been collected for laboratory assay, with results expected in six to eight weeks.
A first‑pass systematic soil sampling program has commenced, consisting of two lines 200m apart across the southern portion of the Gold Point licence package, with samples collected every 50m.
The program is designed to define the geochemical footprint of the copper target and characterise the gold‑silver sheeted vein systems.
The Gold Point Project is located within a district that has produced more than 40 million ounces of gold within a 90km radius.
Nelson Resources is an Australian gold and base metals explorer advancing a portfolio of projects across Western Australia, including the Woodline, Fortnum, Tempest, and Yarri projects, alongside its Nevada assets.
