Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX) is set to begin site works and mining activities this month, after receiving final regulatory approvals for its Lucky Strike Gold Project in Western Australia.
The mine development and closure plan and clearing permit have been approved by the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE), marking the final step before on-ground activity.
Lefroy’s mining partner, BML Ventures, will lead site clearing and pre-strip operations ahead of first ore haulage to FMR Investments’ Greenfields Mill in Coolgardie, scheduled for February 2026.
BML will begin site preparation in November, including the setup of site offices, accommodation, and infrastructure for waste and ore stockpiles. Mining is expected to ramp up through early 2026, with gold production anticipated from March 2026.
CEO Graeme Gribbin says the approvals complete a major milestone and position the company to transition from explorer to gold producer.
“The acceptance by the DMPE of the mine development and closure plan represents the final major approval for the project, paving the way for earthworks to commence at Lucky Strike,” Gribbin says.

The Lucky Strike deposit hosts a mineral resource of 1.27 million tonnes at 1.95 grams per tonne gold for 79,600 ounces.
Under a profit-share arrangement, BML will fund and manage all pre-mining, capital, and operational costs, leaving Lefroy debt-free until revenue sharing begins in the first half of 2026.
Lefroy holds a 635km² land package across the Kalgoorlie–Kambalda region, with Lucky Strike the first of several deposits targeted for near-term production.
