Kingwest intersects bedrock gold mineralisation at Lake Goongarrie

Kingwest Resources (ASX:KWR) reports that it has intersected bedrock gold mineralisation from maiden diamond drilling at the Sir Laurence gold targets within its Goongarrie Gold Project in Western Australia.

The first two holes drilled on Lake Goongarrie are described by the company as indicating a ‘potentially large-scale’ bedrock gold mineralised system, underlying alluvial and interface gold mineralisation identified from discovery aircore work at the Sir Laurence prospect.

Speaking on the update, Kingwest Resources CEO Ed Turner said: “Whilst we have not yet intersected economic grades in the first two holes, the pervasive hydrothermal alteration, intense sulphide development and widespread low grade gold mineralisation demonstrate that we are drilling within a large and prospective system.

Sir Laurence retains the strong potential, due to its litho-structural setting, to host a large mineralised gold deposit”

Sir Laurence retains the strong potential, due to its litho-structural setting, to host a large mineralised gold deposit.

Kingwest continues to refine and define the exploration targets within the Sir Laurence gold system, which will be tested by the rest of this drilling programme and remains excited about their potential.”

Two diamond holes (KGD001, KGD002A) have been completed to date as part of the program, for a total of 879.4m, with a third (KGD003A) currently in progress. The company reports that two holes (KGD002 and KGD003) were unable to reach bedrock due to difficult ground conditions. These were re-drilled as KGD002A and KGD003A.

Interestingly, sulphide alteration, quartz veinlets and gold levels intensify eastwards from hole KGD001 towards KGD003, which Kingwest believes indicates a localised vector towards potential ‘significant’ gold mineralisation.

The Goongarrie Gold Project, located 75km north of Kalgoorlie, is host to an 18km stretch of the alluvium-covered and ‘virtually unexplored’ Victorious Basalt/Black Flag beds contact. Further south, the contact becomes the Golden Mile Dolerite/Black Flag beds contact, hosting the 1.7Moz Aphrodite gold deposit 7km south of KWR leases.

Moving forward, drilling will focus on targets at Sir Laurence that have previously intersected bedrock mineralisation during aircore drilling.
