Kingfisher Mining targets ‘large-scale’ REE carbonatites along Chalba and Lockier corridors, WA

Kingfisher Mining’s (ASX:KFM) 2023 exploration program is underway targeting ‘large-scale’ rare earth element (REE) carbonatites, along the 54km Chalba and 30km Lockier target corridors within the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. 

The exploration program builds on the confirmed presence of ‘high-grade’ REE mineralisation along the Chalba target corridor. Drill results recorded at Chalba include, 5m @ 2.63 total rare earth oxide (TREO) with 0.54% Nd2O3 + Pr6O11, and 5m @ 3.45% TREO with 0.65% Nd2O3 + Pr6O11.

Kingfisher Mining Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director, James Farrell, says: “The program brings together the geological understanding we have gained from our recent high-grade carbonatite REE discoveries along with all of the results obtained from our exploration work we completed in 2022 and the substantial target generation work completed this year from our new geophysical surveys.

Having confirmed the high-grade REEs associated with carbonatites on the 54km long Chalba zone, our value building exploration activities are now strongly geared towards the discovery of large-scale ‘Mt Weld style’ carbonatite intrusions which we interpret to be source of mineralisation in our discoveries and our exciting high priority REE targets.”

Kingfisher reports the exploration program comprises ‘significant’ on-ground mapping to advance existing ‘high-quality’ carbonatite targets, which were defined from recent geophysical surveys. This includes the ‘large’ LK1 target, stretching more than 9km long and more than 6.5km wide. 

Additionally, airborne magnetics and radiometric at the Chalba target corridor are anticipated to be completed in Q3 2023. The company reports magnetics and radiometrics are ‘highly’ effective for identifying carbonatite mineralisation.
