International Graphite (ASX:IG6) has executed a land sale contract with DevelopmentWA to acquire three lots in the Collie Light Industrial Area, 200km south of Perth and opposite the company’s research and development facility.
The graphite micronising facility will cover around 6,000m of land in Collie, Western Australia, currently awaiting approval from government-owned Western Power to supply up to 7,500 tonnes of micronised product each year.
Local contractor ProsserBuilt is creating a detailed design of the plant, which is being completed while the company awaits approval from the Shire of Collie regarding its development application.
CEO Andrew Worland says the addition of infrastructure to International Graphite’s portfolio inherits property value exceeding the sunk cost.
“Land of this quality is rare as industrial and residential development in the southwest region of Western Australia continues to boom,” Worland says.
“The Collie Micronising Facility will bring Australian graphite products to market at a time of significant supply side uncertainty.”
Worland notes that a number of local companies are currently testing International Graphite’s products to test suitability for individual manufacturing processes, strengthening Australian-demand by avoiding delays in the international supply chain.
“Achieving these milestones marks further significant progress in International Graphite’s strategy to be a leading western industrial graphite specialist provider,” Worland adds.
Graphite is listed on the Australian Government’s critical minerals list, as demand continues to rise for the global shift to decarbonisation and green technology.
As reported by Mining.com.au, while China accounts for more than 70% of global production, global demand is expected to surge, with a Benchmark Mineral Intelligence forecast indicating natural graphite demand could surge by 140% by 2030.
