International Graphite (ASX:IG6) has settled on the purchase of the land for Australia’s first commercial graphite micronising facility at Collie in Western Australia.
Three lots were purchased in the Collie Light Industrial Area – about 200km south of Perth – from the Western Australian Government’s central development agency DevelopmentWA.
The 6,000km2 land parcel is immediately opposite the company’s existing research and development facility – home to Australia’s first pilot graphite micronising facility.
International Graphite, which has a market capitalisation of $12.7 million, is working with designers to finalise the detailed facility design in preparation for major plant and equipment items which have been ordered.
Essential power supply has been approved by Western Power and a development application is currently in the final stages with the Shire of Collie. Approval will pave the way for construction to begin on the new site.
CEO Andrew Worland says the Collie facility is coming online at a pivotal moment for global graphite supply.
“Interest from manufacturers has been strong, with many seeking reliable alternatives to tenuous overseas supply,” Worland says.
“Several companies are now assessing our products.”
Over the past three years, the state government has provided a $12.5 million package of grants to progress development of the Collie and Springdale projects.
International Graphite is focused on building Australia’s first global graphite company ensuring a supply for industry and battery manufacturers worldwide.
